Chapter 13: Kṣhetra Kṣhetrajña Vibhāg Yog – Yoga through Distinguishing the Field and the Knower of the Field

Sanskrit Shloka

समं पश्यन्हि सर्वत्र समवस्थितमीश्वरम्।न हिनस्त्यात्मनाऽऽत्मानं ततो याति परां गतिम्

Transliteration

samaṁ paśhyan hi sarvatra samavasthitam īśhvaram na hinasty ātmanātmānaṁ tato yāti parāṁ gatim

Word Meanings

samam—equally; paśhyan—see; hi—indeed; sarvatra—everywhere; samavasthitam—equally present; īśhvaram—God as the Supreme soul; na—do not; hinasti—degrade; ātmanā—by one’s mind; ātmānam—the self; tataḥ—thereby; yāti—reach; parām—the supreme; gatim—destination

Translation

He who perceives the Supreme Lord existing equally in all beings, dwelling everywhere, does not degrade the self by the self; thus, he attains the supreme destination.

Meaning & Commentary

Bhagwan Shri Krishna reveals that the soul remains trapped in ignorance only as long as it perceives differences and duality in the material world. By realizing that the same Supreme Presence dwells within every heart, the seeker ceases to act against their own spiritual nature, thereby preventing the destruction of their potential for divinity. When one stops projecting false identities upon themselves and others, they cease to act out of ego, which is the primary cause of bondage. Shri Krishna invites Arjuna, and all humanity, to transcend the limitations of the lower mind and behold the eternal, unchanging Brahman within all. Through this vision of unity, the soul is liberated from the cycle of samsara and reaches the ultimate goal—eternal communion with Shri Krishna.
