Chapter 18: Mokṣha Sanyās Yog – Yoga through the Perfection of Renunciation and Surrender

धृत्या यया धारयते मनःप्राणेन्द्रियक्रियाः।योगेनाव्यभिचारिण्या धृतिः सा पार्थ सात्त्विकी

Transliteration

dhṛityā yayā dhārayate manaḥ-prāṇendriya-kriyāḥ yogenāvyabhichāriṇyā dhṛitiḥ sā pārtha sāttvikī

Word Meanings

Translation

The unwavering firmness, O Arjuna, by which the functions of the mind, the life-force, and the senses are restrained through the practice of Yoga, is known as Sattvic determination.

Meaning & Commentary

In this verse, Bhagwan Shri Krishna reveals the hallmark of a seeker established in purity. He explains that true determination is not merely stubbornness, but a sacred power used to discipline the inner instruments of the soul. By restraining the fickle mind and senses through the steady path of Yoga, the devotee aligns their entire existence with the Divine will of Shri Krishna. This Sattvic firmness acts as the bridge between mundane entanglement and eternal liberation, granting the seeker the inner strength to remain focused on the Supreme. Ultimately, it is the grace of Yogeshwar Krishna that empowers the soul to transcend the material nature and attain union with His eternal presence.
