Meaning & Commentary

This verse reveals that the root of our struggle is not external but internal; desire acts as a veil obscuring our true divine nature. By anchoring our consciousness in the supreme Self—which sits above the intellect—we gain the objective vantage point necessary to master our impulses. This is not about self-suppression, but about self-transcendence, where the lower ego is refined by the light of pure awareness. When we stop identifying with our fleeting cravings, the 'enemy' loses its power, transforming our inner landscape from a battlefield of chaotic urges into a sanctuary of stillness. Ultimately, this teaching empowers us to reclaim our sovereignty and live with clarity, transcending the grip of worldly attachments.
